Our Daughter Has A Secret (and We Can’t Tell You What It Is)

September 17, 2018 by Larry Fine Leave a Comment

My wife and I can’t say what our younger daughter does for a living. It’s not that it’s hard to describe; it’s that we’re not allowed to say. She might as well work for the CIA (but she doesn’t, although of course I would say that even if she did).

What I think I can say is that she works for a global entertainment conglomerate. And her area of focus is “entertainment”. If pressed, I sometimes push the envelope by saying that she’s “friends” with various beloved larger than life characters. She hangs out with these beloved characters in magical “themed” settings. But now I’ve said too much…

Scott Brick Supports New Writers (Like Me!)

October 20, 2017 by Larry Fine Leave a Comment

I have previously written about my admiration for Scott Brick, the world’s greatest and most awarded audiobook narrator.  And my appreciation that he found the time to create a fantastic audiobook out of my novel, MURDERING LAWYERS.

Recently Scott posted a blog on his website www.brickbybrickaudiobooks.com, the first in a series, in which he highlighted new authors.  To my delight and glee, MURDERING LAWYERS was prominently featured in that blog posting.  After writing that the book was “not your parents’ legal thriller”, Scott went on to call MURDERING LAWYERS “witty, clever, and definitely NSFW” with “plenty of surprises inside its pages.” So naturally I am grinning idiotically as I insert a link to the post here.

The Pros and Cons of Almost Dying at the Happiest Place on Earth

October 14, 2017 by Larry Fine Leave a Comment

I’ve put off writing this post long enough; it’s now been over 6 months since I almost died in Disney World.

And no, the root cause was not, as one Australian co-worker guessed, a particularly tall and aggressive Goofy.  Or an extra-jerky ride on Space Mountain.  Or even (fill in other Disney joke here).

I was with my family in Orlando, visiting the parks and our daughter who works there.  We were staying at the Caribbean Beach resort, in a pirate-themed room.  And in that idyllic setting my heart chose to attack me.

Scott Brick Approved This Message!

April 21, 2017 by Larry Fine Leave a Comment

In my last blog I gushed about how thrilled I was that my narration idol had exceeded my expectations in delivering a consistently entertaining, often exciting audio version of my novel MURDERING LAWYERS (now available for sale on Amazon and Audible!).  Since I posted that blog, at least 3 newsworthy things have occurred: 1. I had a small heart attack and major surgery while visiting Disney World with my family (more on that in subsequent blogs); 2. On the morning of my surgery I scored excellent pre-sale tickets to see comedian John Mulaney perform in Westchester County; and 3. I’ve sold many audiobooks and received excellent ratings and reviews.

(Scott) Brick Kills At Murdering Lawyers!

February 14, 2017 by Larry Fine Leave a Comment

Lots of people can read (even in 2017!).  Fewer can read smoothly aloud (think back to the last time you participated in “responsive reading” in church or temple).  But in my humble opinion, only one person can flawlessly perform every nuance of a multi-hundred page book, creating an appropriate sense of underlying menace while still hitting all of the laugh lines.  Let me introduce that man to you (if you’re not already one of his millions of fans):  multi-award winning audiobook narrator SCOTT BRICK!

“Murdering Lawyers May Slow Down Your iPhone!”

December 31, 2016 by Larry Fine Leave a Comment

“‘Murdering Lawyers’ May Slow Down Your iPhone” was the message that a friend received recently when trying to download my “MURDERING LAWYERS” mobile app game from the Apple App Store.  That’s not something that anyone wants to hear, for at least 2 reasons: 1. speed can be of the essence when one is trying to murder lawyers; and 2. a warning that downloading your game may screw up iPhones can dampen people’s enthusiasm for your game.

Who Could Say No To Satan After School?

September 25, 2016 by Larry Fine Leave a Comment

Once again Satan seems to be on a winning streak in our court system.  It seems that no one can (legally) say “no” to having an “After School Satan Club” in their place of child learning.  Or at least not if they’re one of the nearly 5000 schools that already have a Good News Bible Club after school program.

In 2001 the U.S. Supreme Court found in favor (6-3) of an after school evangelical program in a case called the Good News Club v. Milford Central School.  The majority of the Court found that allowing Good News Clubs to run after-school programs and “speak on school ground would ensure, not threaten, neutrality toward religion.”

USPTO Protects Its Own From Murder

August 4, 2015 by Larry Fine Leave a Comment

In a previous post, I told the story of Apple’s surprising level of concern for the danger which could be posed to attorneys by my MURDERING LAWYERS mobile app game.  It is perhaps less surprising that the staff at the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO, comprised largely of attorneys) has now expressed trepidation about the related filing for trademark protection.

Notwithstanding Misleading Headline, Lots of Demons Still Running Big Law Firms

May 10, 2015 by Larry Fine Leave a Comment

Imagine how excited I was when a helpful reader forwarded me the link to an article on the AboveTheLaw blog entitled “Which BigLaw Firm Had An Actual Exorcism Performed At Its Office?” (read here)!
Naturally my first thought was “great; one down, hundreds to go…”
Then imagine my disappointment when I read the article and started to suspect that this “exorcism” had been a merely symbolic publicity stunt!  Seems that an organization called Global Justice Now was upset by King & Spaulding’s “foreign investor-state treaty arbitration practice”, whatever that is (unless that’s some sort of code or euphemism for “ritual sacrifice of the innocent” practice).  Evidently the GJN people were just on the street holding up signs and singing, and it was actually the building which they were trying to save.  Although the article says that “It’s not clear whether the executives of King & Spalding got on their knees and presented themselves naked before the Lord on Thursday as Reverend Billy commanded them to,” my money is on “no”.
Doesn’t anyone know how to exorcise evil lawyers anymore, or is that just another lost art in today’s rush-rush video-game-playing-internet-surfing-ADHD-claiming society?

MURDERING LAWYERS can be fulfilling and collaborative fun, even on your phone!

February 28, 2015 by Larry Fine Leave a Comment

Several people asked me to “elaborate” on the trials and tribulations of creating a mobile app game with no prior experience or aptitude.  I’m happy to do that, since the experience was fun and creatively rewarding (money to follow), and since I just finished working with my developer to create a kick-ass 15-second promotional video for the game (please click on this YouTube link [you might want to watch it more than once as it is action-packed and goes by VERY quickly]: game ad).
